I continue to be awed and amazed by the work that you are doing. Thank you for trying the exercises and for bravely sharing! Check out the hashtag #LoveLightCreateChallenge to see the beautiful work people have done so far.

Today marks the fourth week of the #LoveLightCreateChallenge, a series of (almost) weekly challenges for artists and creatives of ALL TYPES. For more information about this free challenge, check out the main page where I set up the concept and lay out my vision.

So, for our next challenge, I give you: EMBODY.

To help you, I’ve posted a few jumping off points below, but I also wanted to share how the Google dictionary defines embody: 1. be an expression of or give a tangible or visible form to (an idea, quality, or feeling).

That is the closest to what comes to mind when I think of the term. I searched a couple other dictionary sites, but most offer a view more as synonyms than a concept in and of itself. I do also like the fourth definition on Merriam-Webster though: to represent in human or animal form.

Merriam-Webster essentially breaks the term embody down into three primary meanings: incarnate, incorporate, personify.

You are welcome to interpret the theme anyway you like, using any creative medium you like. If that’s too vague (and I know this is a tricky one), here are some opening thoughts.

  • If you have a spirit animal, draw it, paint it, create a mask, or make a puppet of it.
  • Revisit the I Am post, and create a piece of art that includes words that remind you of your highest self. (This was a very popular and effective creativity prompt that received some really good feedback. I highly recommend doing it!)
  • Crank up a song that makes you feel alive and DANCE your heart out!
  • Create a short meditation for yourself—a couple of brief sentences to enter a contemplative space. Practice saying them to yourself daily.
  • Practice intuitive art. Get some colors or your favorite pen, and just start moving ink/paint on the page. See if you can communicate what you are feeling with line, shape, rhythm and hue. Be sure to mix values for the strongest effect: including some light and some dark will build an interesting tension.
  • Write a short story about a person who undergoes a sudden and apparent shift—for better or worse.
  • Make a set of contemplation cards. These are words for the day that represent ideas you want to consider or embody. Put one word on each card, and put them into a little pack or basket. Pull one (or more) daily and focus on it. This can be done before meditation or yoga, or as a morning practice to ground yourself for the day. Some examples you may wish to include: patience, love, gratitude, strength, creativity, joy, nourish, truth, persistence, etc. If you prefer, you can write inspirational quotes or phrases instead.
  • Create a piece of art that reflects the element that you feel most closely associated with: earth, water, air, fire. In Taoist philosophy, air is substituted with wood and metal.

Or you tap into your inner muse and do completely your own thing!

Whatever you create, I’d love for you to share it with me! Post it on Instagram using the hashtag #LoveLightCreateChallenge, share it to Facebook on my page or in the Weekly Challenge group (join here), or email me at alana@ofloveandlight.org. I can’t wait to see what you come up with.

{I’d love for you to share it here, but I can’t seem to figure out a good plugin yet that allows picture sharing in comments. If you know of a good one, please let me know!}

Later on in the week, I’ll share what I’ve created using the prompt.

And, by Sunday, if you give me permission to share what you’ve done, I’d love to share a round-up of what you’ve created. I’m trying to figure out the best way to do this exactly, so for now, just message me on Instagram or email me if it’s okay for me to share, and be sure to include any links to your social media or website if you’d like to include a link back to you. If you’re okay sharing the work but would prefer to remain anonymous, that’s fine. Please just let me know. As the challenge rolls along, I’ll figure out the best way to streamline all this.

Thank you for participating!!! Sending love and light to you!! GOOD LUCK and have fun with this! xoxox
